Months of preparation. Weeks of detailed planning. Days of dedication. Hours now before the Basic Cadets of the 2013 Minnesota Wing Encampment arrive at Camp Ripley. The air here is literally buzzing in anticipation. C/Capt Mark Farrand, Commander of the 15th Cadet Training Group has just finished inspecting the final plans and is satisfied that everything is in place for the Basics to arrive. "It is our time to give back to the CAP" said C/Capt Farrand.
To the new parents, the one's that are dropping off their children for the first time, this can be an event that is filled with a high level of anxiety. All of us here at the 15th CTG (Cadet Training Group) know this feeling because we were all once there. For some of the staff, this is their first year. Others, like Lt Col (Chaplain) Don Mikitta, are working through their 23rd encampment. All of us are here for your cadets.
Capt Andrew Dew, Commandant of Cadets, put it this way, "Lead by example. All of us are here to train and learn, and the cadets of the Minnesota Wing are looking to us to be the leaders we have trained to become." Today, as the cadet's arrive, the months, weeks, days and hours of training will be put into practice. We are here, performing missions for America, training the next generation of civil servant leaders who put service above self.
Our motto this year is Simul Vincimus. It means, to us, that we are all in this together: we cannot do this alone. There is saying that there is no "I" in TEAM, and while true, you also cannot have a TEAM without ME. It is that personal attention to being an intricate part of the team that we are focused on this year. We look forward to greeting the Basic Cadets of the 15th CTG in just 180 minutes from now.
Simul Vincimus - Together We Will Be Victorious
